Hymie Rubenstein

Currently a public policy analyst and editorial writer, Hymie Rubenstein is a retired Professor of Anthropology at the University of Manitoba, where he taught and conducted research between 1973 and 2004. He was born in Toronto and is a triple-degree holder from the University of Toronto (B.A., M.A., and Ph.D.). His doctoral research took him to the small Eastern Caribbean country of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where he has conducted ethnographic fieldwork ever since. This research resulted in two books, dozens of journal articles, and over 150 newspaper and Internet opinion pieces on such topics as peasant family life, community organization, labour migration, small farming, illegal drugs, and tourism. Rubenstein has also written many public policy articles on such topics as academic accountability, student performance, pay equity, unionization, and Canadian Indigenous issues.
